Due out 07/2006.
Manchester's Phuture Lounge crew present 'Rainbow Soul Volume One', a collection of gorgeous soulful gems, which takes in everything from sweet neo soul to broken soul stormers. This compilation has been produced by Phuturistix and shows the strength and breadth of the music emanating from the Phuture Lounge studio. Phuturistix aka Dave Jones and Sefton Mottley brought us the "Feel It Out" LP on Hospital a few years back, and recently they've released some excellent tunes on their own burgeoning Phuture Lounge imprint. Engineering ace Dave Jones has a considerable pedigree as a solo artist, who has put out a slew of material under the Zed Bias and Maddslinky names, whilst Sefton Mottley aka Injekta is an experienced DJ and studio head.
First up on this CD is rising star Vaceo's "Room For All", a frustrated vocal number with clapped percussion and key droplets. Manchester singer Fyza then gives us a silky keyed and sweetly stringed invitation in the shape of "Tonight", whilst Hamburg's Oezlem drops a bass groover called "Eyes Burn". D&B starlet Jenna G drops down to walking pace tempo for the full body key driven "Put It On Me", as Mr. J lays his emotions bare on the trumpet kissed "Intergalactic Love Affair". "Want You To Want Me" is an envious heavy bassed number from Charlene Michael, whilst earnest strings and calm piano keys colour Californian Michelle Amador's confused "He and She". Vaceo returns in a happy mood with the fuzzy bassed "Best There Ever Was", before Oezlem drops the synth laced "New Era". Uplifting brass sits behind Mr J's star gazing vocals on "Cosmic", whilst "Summer Groove" sees heavy hearted synths press down on Fyza's bronzed vocals. Michelle Amador has the last word with "Higher", where her positive vocals are joined by stepping broken beats, ecstatic strings and a rolling bass.
Whilst hailing from various corners of the globe, the talented singers and musicians featured on this compilation have come together in a thriving northern city. Famed for its rain, guitar bands and a certain nightclub, Manchester has a strong, if under exposed, soulful tradition and this collection shows that the music is still alive in the city today. Rainbow Soul the compilation was born from a weekly live orientated club session of the same name. The club event was home to esteemed DJs such as Chris Jam (Speakeasy/Jam MCs), Tomlin (Jam MCs/Rainy City/Soul Tree) and of course Phuturistix, and hosted live performances from the likes of LTA, Mark De Clive Lowe and Kaidi Tatham. It is now time for the world to hear the colourful musical delights of 'Rainbow Soul'.
